Diners at a Taiwanese dessert cafe [Yi Wan Tian Ping] in Singapore’s Serangoon Garden estate can feast their eyes on these diorama scenes depicting Taipeis food alleys. The models are 3-5 inches high. The stalls and food items are what you see in a Chinatown street anywhere in the world. The only Chinatown where you don’t see them any more is in Singapore, which has been degraded into a tacky tourist trap.

Photos taken on April 11, 2012, when my son Fred and I visited the cafe to slurp some dessert. My favourite is chendol, sweet as sin.
